I can across this while installing Lync Server 2013 in environment with a single domain that was based on Windows Server 2008R2.
Running the Forest Prep from the Lync Deployment wizard resulting in the following error:
Error: Active Directory operation failed on “DC3.domain.local”. You cannot retry this operation: “Directory object not found 0000208D: NameErr: DSID-0310020A, problem 2001 (NO_OBJECT), data 0, best match of: ‘CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=local’ “
I was able to previously update the schema with no issues and could also connect to the schema with ADSIEdit as well.
So I tried the same operation from an elevated Lync Server Management Shell.
I knew I was connecting to a GC called DC03.domain.local from the logs of the schema update so I ran the following:
enable-CSADForest -GroupDomainController DC03.domain.local -GroupDomain domain.local –verbose

PS C:\Users\dcaputo>
As you can see from above, the command now completes successfully and upon refreshing the deployment wizard, it will also show the task as being completed.
I did not determine what the root cause of why it failed in the deployment wizard but will post again if I get any new information.
